New councillor hopes to see Springs restored to its former glory

Charmaine Kock is the newly elected Ward 75 councillor in Ekurhuleni.
Kock got involved in politics in 2018 after realising that the present government was hopelessly failing Ekurhuleni communities.
“Back then, I was an administrator on numerous community WhatsApp groups and I was taken aback by the frequency of complaints owing to service delivery issues and challenges.
“I realised that Ekurhuleni communities needed a voice that would be heard.
“A voice that would enable everyone to experience the DA difference, where we strive for freedom, fairness and opportunity within our diverse society and that every individual will have an equal opportunity within our society.
“While I only entered politics a few years ago, I have been involved in community development projects from as far back as 1997,” she said.
The new councillor admits that Ward 75 has an array of challenges.
“Illegal dumping, non-functioning streetlights, continuous sewage overflow, power outages and limited access to housing.
“Public parks and heritage sites are ill-maintained and have become vulnerable to vandalism and crime.
“Now that I am elected, I plan to ensure that our parks are clean and restore service delivery across the ward,” she added.
Kock said she is passionate about uplifting the community and possesses excellent communication skills.
“I believe that my ability to communicate with people from all walks of life will aid me in serving the Ward 75 community well,” she said.
She believes that she is a great team player, well-organised and works well under pressure.
“Being a problem solver is another one of my traits and I am always ready to get things done.
“I am passionate about the people of Springs and the town’s heritage.
“It saddens me to see the state of Springs, especially the CDB.
“I would like to see Springs being restored to its former glory,” she concluded.
