Help by donating school shoes

Gama said this is also to show them they can fit in with other learners at school, which plays a huge role in developing a child.

Nondumiso Gama started an initiative called Save A Shoe that will help to donate school shoes to learners from poor backgrounds.
“We go to different primary schools in Tsakani and identify learners who need school shoes. Our purpose is to close the gap of poverty and make sure learners are confident enough to know they are supported and loved,” said Gama.

Schools shoes are needed.

Gama recognised some learners refuse to go to school at a younger age based on things like not having shoes.

“Some of the learners lack confidence while they are at school because they feel different. We try by all means to supply them with shoes, which helps to build their self-esteem and adds value to their performance at school,” she said.
Gama said this is also to show them they can fit in with other learners at school, which plays a huge role in developing a child.
“This will also help parents so they may know that even though they don’t have that much, there is always someone who will try to assist,” she said.

“Donations are coming in steadily. It’s still new, so I don’t expect large numbers but people are responding well so far. We plan to grow our initiative and help even learners from other part of provinces.”
