Centre prepares youth for adulthood

The Hope, Faith and Grace Youth Centre is fully operational and ready to face the challenges that this year will present.
Founder Kerry-Leigh Wright has already drawn up an entire programme for the year, which includes various educational activities, which will prepare the youth for the adult world.
Twelve young people are now permanent residents where they are given a bed, food, a vegetable garden, a pool and all the other necessities.
They are also provided with extra amenities, such as a library and a TV room where they can unwind, watch movies and get to know their peers at the centre.

The goal of the youth centre is to prepare the troubled youth of Springs for adulthood.
“We want to prepare them for the workplace and to function in the adult world,” said Wright.
“So, we will be hiring people to write CVs for them, teach them how to conduct themselves at a job interview and how to conduct themselves in a work environment.”
Many of these youths come from troubled backgrounds with many of their parents living on the streets.
Some of them also battle with addiction and trauma, which Wright and her team will tackle head-on.
Counselling, therefore, is the primary and most important service offered at the centre.

“We have already seen a difference,” said Wright.
“One of our residents who struggled with anger issues is very calm and in control of his emotions now.”
Everything is now in place, but the centre still relies on donations to remain operational. These donations include toiletries, food, cleaning equipment and monetary donations.
