Cable theft leaves Vischkuil residents in the dark

His neighbour, Brian Vorster, is just as frustrated with the situation.

Vischkuil resident Martin Nortman and many of his neighbours have been without power last Sunday due to cable theft.
According to Nortman, thieves stole the cables from a power pylon near his house at around 24:00.
“We can’t get an answer from Eskom or the metro,” said Nortman.
His neighbour, Brian Vorster, is just as frustrated with the situation.
“My mother lives with me and she’s very ill. This is just making it all worse,” said Vorster.

Nortman stated he has around R10 000 worth of meat in his fridge and has to borrow his neighbour’s generator just to prevent the meat from spoiling.
Both Nortman and Vorster have contacted the metro and Eskom numerous times to no avail.
“They always give us this excuse of overtime and tell us to wait four or five hours before they can help us, but they still never show up to help.
“The metro does the same thing. All you get from them is a reference number and nothing else,” said Nortman.
