NPO wants to help abused women

They also want to raise awareness around gender-based violence.

Call Her Blessed is an NPO and shelter for abused, destitute and pregnant women and their children.
The shelter is based in Grootvlei Estate and has all the facilities needed to give these women and children the care they need.
They aim to equip the women staying at the shelter with life skills that will allow them to become dependent on themselves through programmes, such as work4aliving, parenting skills and garden for life courses.
“NPOs are reliant on businesses and the community for support.
“We have some churches, businesses and individuals who have already partnered with us, helping with product donations and financial support.
“However, we do need more businesses and individuals to come on board to take hands with us and help financially,” said Dominique Stevenson, who is part of the NPO’s fund-raising department.

Call Her Blessed has been operational for six years and have five women, eight children and four volunteers at their shelter.
One of their primary challenges is monthly expenses towards estate levies, municipal accounts, electricity and gas, and petrol for the daily collection of donations and transportation for the women to clinics or hospitals when necessary.
According to Stevenson, the NPO is renovating the floors of the shelter and had to temporarily move the residents to outside rooms.
Stevenson and her team wish to make the people of Springs aware of the shelter’s existence and encourage abused women to come forward and seek help.
They also want to raise awareness around gender-based violence.
