Homeless blessed at street shower

Led by Winifred du Preez, the volunteers set up different stations to cater to those in need.

Redeem Life partnered with other NPOs and churches to host a street shower for the homeless on Saturday at Laerskool Jan van Riebeeck.
Led by Winifred du Preez, the volunteers set up different stations to cater to those in need.
“When they arrived, our guests were served a light snack. Then they moved to get a haircut,” she explained.
After this, they had access to portable showers.
“After the shower, they received clothes and shoes. The socks and underwear were brand new from our sponsors,” said du Preez.

The dedicated teem of volunteers received people from 07:00 to 16:00 on Saturday.

The beneficiaries then have their feet washed.
“We give them more clothes and blankets to take home. They were also helped with their CVs to help them find jobs,” she added.
Du Preez admits that the organisation could do more if it had resources.

“Some of the people have no IDs nor birth certificates. Many of them battle with addiction,” she said.
Redeem Life’s ultimate goal is to find premises where people in need can settle and be helped for longer periods.
“I want them to leave only when we believe they are capable of being productive and stand on their own feet,” said du Preez.

After a shower, the beneficiaries had their feet thoroughly scrubbed by the volunteers.

Redeem Life meets with the homeless of Springs every Monday.
“With the help of other churches and families, we can feed them one meal. We do need more, all the time.
“If the people of Springs are willing, they are welcome to help us out,” said du Preez.
