Getting to know Pritisha M
“I would definitely advise other artists to sign under a label because it’s not easy for an upcoming artist to compose their own songs, sing and manage it themselves at the same time.”
Pritisha Muthraparsad (12), known by her stage name Pritisha M, has four singles to her name.
She is the youngest produced Indian artist from Springs and in the country with the release of her first own original Hindi song Meri Maai in 2020. It was nominated for a SATMA Award in 2021.
• Where did your interest in music start?
I come from a family of musicians, so it is in my genes. Singing will always be my first love and my preferred art form as I started singing just after I learned to speak.
I have been performing since I was five years old. My stage was the coffee table and my audience was my family.
Since then, I have performed at many events and functions, competed in eisteddfods and performed in productions of my music school.
• Do you write your songs yourself?
I have a lot of ideas but I can’t seem to put them down on paper to write my lyrics. I usually discuss my ideas with my family, my producer and my music teachers both here and in India. With their guidance, help and suggestions, we turn my ideas into inspiration for a new song.
• Is there an overall theme in your songs?
I try that my songs carry a message to my audience and it’s usually a message that can contribute to making life more beautiful, living positively and spreading love.
• What inspired your latest single, Love Me?
I had this vision of giving back to the youth of this country by recording a song that will make a difference, while also singing it in the traditional language of South Africa, Zulu. I collaborated with Mercedes Boshego from Noted Colony Studios, who composed and produced an amazing song for me which carries a special message to stop child abuse.
As a token of my love for my youth fans, I will be donating a percentage of my royalties to a child abuse centre in South Africa.
• You are signed under a record label, Bhavani Entertainment & Investments. Would you advise people who make music to sign under labels and why especially young ones like you?
I would advise other artists to sign under a label because it is not easy for upcoming artist to compose their songs, sing and manage themselves at the same time. It’s a lot of pressure on them.
It’s best to sign under a label and let them take care of all your PR work so that your music can get exposure on radio stations, TV and media. You can get some gigs as well and this will make your music more popular while allowing you to focus solely on yourself as a growing artist.
For young artists like me, it’s a must so that we can have some direction and good advice from our record label.
