Cheerful residents at Epilepsy SA in Geduld celebrate Tekkie Tax Day
Epilepsy SA in Geduld celebrated Tekkie Tax Day on July 29 in support of raising awareness for people living with disabilities.
Walking along East Geduld Road, residents of Epilepsy SA in Geduld sang and danced as they celebrated Tekkie Tax Day on Friday.
The aim was to raise awareness for people living with disabilities while selling Tekkie Tax Day merchandise as a means to raise funds for the centre.

Tekkie Tax Day is a campaign that started in 2013 that saw welfare organisations in South Africa joining forces.
“Since the inception we have various stakeholders who have supported us in purchasing stickers, badges, shoe laces and T-shirts,” said Mpumi Khumalo, social worker and PRO at Epilepsy SA in Geduld.
“On the day, as nominated by the national office, we wear our colourful merchandise to raise awareness to the community,” said Mpumi.

Mpumi said due to some uncertainties, the centre could not celebrate Tekkie Tax Day on the actual day in May.
However, they are looking forward to preparing for next year’s celebration in time.
The centre thanked Impala Platinum Refineries for their enormous contribution as well as social workers at the Far East Rand Hospital, Laerskool Morester and individuals who also supported the campaign.
Tekkie Tax is divided into five sectors that welfare organisations can choose from, namely animals, bringing hope, children, disability and education.
All proceeds from the fundraising will be in support of the centre.
