Olympia Park chess players qualify for championships

Chess players at Olympia Park School represented the school at the Gauteng LSEN School Chess Tournament on August 19.

Chess learners at Olympia Park School participated in the Gauteng LSEN School Chess Tournament held at Roodepark School on August 19.

U17 first place player Lulamile Dyini together with U19 player Christo Lubaxa, Katlego Kopa and Mpumelelo Ndlovu (front) represented their school in the chess tournament.

The Gauteng LSEN School Chess tournament is competed individually by learners from various schools.
From Olympia Park School, 11 out of 20 learners were chosen to showcase their talent in the South African Junior Chess Championships.

Frst place in the U17 age group was bagged by Sizwe Masina and Lulamile Dyini.
The school’s chess players who made it to the top 15 are Gift Mbata, Praise Ngema, Matthew Matman, Lulamile Dyini, Jacques Aukamp, Sizwe Masina, Christo Lubaxa, Pieter Buys, Katlego Kopa, Mpumelelo Ndlovu and Jay-T van der Merwe.
“We are extremely proud of our learners’ achievement in the tournament,” said educator Laurika Lazarides.
