Springs parkrun turns six

What better way to celebrate a birthday than with running and tutus?

Springs parkrun celebrated its sixth birthday last week Saturday. The event had 295 parkrunners and walkers present.

The founder of parkrun SA, Bruce Fordyce, was also present. He holds the record for winning the Comrades Marathon nine times, eight of which were consecutive wins.

He also won the London to Brighton ultra-marathon three consecutive times.

Chris Sutton and Heidi Williams Sutton operated as volunteers for the day with Chris being a timekeeper and Heidi a marshall motivating and cheering on parkrunners.

They celebrated the day with cake and volunteers and parkrunners dressed up in tutus and fancy clothing.

Springs parkrun also chose to support the Springs SPCA. The community of parkrunners came together and opened their hearts by donating pet food as well as cash donations to the organisation.

Last week’s rankings and their times:
Females
1. Kara Beytell 23:26
2. Tatum Swarts 27:09
3. Monica Murray 28:11

Males
1. Kyle de Klerk 21:09
2. Donovan Van Zyl 22:24
3. Willie Palmer 22:35
