Trinity Methodist Church welcomes new reverend

“One thing about God, He knows His children are not perfect.”- Reverend Makole.

This year, Trinity Methodist Church welcomed a new member of staff, Reverend Mesh Makole. With more than 20 years of experience as a male nurse, police captain and community chaplain, the reverend has finally found his forever home.

• Describe your call to ministry.

I grew up in church and in a Christian home. My parents were Christians, so I grew up in that environment.

Starting from Sunday school through to the youth and men’s groups, I looked up to pastors and was inspired by what they did.

Even if there were skits or plays performed in church, I would play the pastor. I was very active in my religious circles. So, I knew from when I was young what I wanted to be. It was more than a calling for me, despite the many career paths I took before reaching the point where I was confirmed.

• Describe your preaching style.

I was a fiery and charismatic pastor in my youth. My approach was loud and energetic. But as you grow, you change, so my approach changed. I now consider myself a teacher.
I am calmer and more controlled. I prefer to talk to people as opposed to preaching to them. I make sure that I talk to them, not at them. I make certain that people understand my message, and I open myself to those who seek clarity.

• What is your go-to spiritual practice when going through everything and nothing?

I am sure all my colleagues, friends, and families will attest to this – I believe in prayer. I believe in talking to God.

Prayer is the answer to all things. Whenever I am down, as my parent, I talk to Him. I feel relieved and much lighter after praying because of talking to Him. So, prayer is my motivation.

• What are your plans for Springs and the church?

I want to encourage young folk to come into the church. My branch is full of the older generation, and I believe we need to accommodate them more in the church.

I also want to have Bible study classes that are open to all. I have many plans, too many to list. I pray I will fulfil them all.
