Buckingham Academy welcomes its new learners
New learners and their parents were treated to one of the school's favourite events of the year.
Buckingham Academy hosted its annual opening assembly day on Saturday last week.
The event was divided into two segments to accommodate the learners of the different phases within the school.
The purpose of each assembly was to welcome new learners and to witness the lighting of a candle as a symbol of the journey of enlightenment each learner undergoes while at the school.
Learners were neatly dressed as they were welcomed with a red-carpet entrance and a piece performed by the school’s choir.
The teachers were also introduced to parents during these assemblies.
The principal, Catherine Bauthier and teacher Sakhile Masombuka, joined the junior choir as they performed Let the little children come to me and then sang We Are the World with the senior choir.
“The pomp and ceremony, the impeccable manners, the respect, balanced by cheerful enthusiasm ensured this annual event remains a favourite among attendees,” said Bauthier.
Surrounded by hugs and laughs, parents were served tea with creamed scones, while the learners enjoyed their treats under the trees.
