Springs Muslim School runs fundraiser for quake-stricken countries

The Bakerton-based school has been fundraising for Muslim countries that have been struck by earthquakes.

The student leadership council (SCL) and teachers of Springs Muslim School in conjunction with the Salaam Foundation hosted a lemonade and cupcake sale for war-torn and quake-stricken countries Türkiye and Syria on February 18.

“It’s part of our religion to help those in need and these terrible things are happening in Muslim countries so it is personal,” said SCL member Tasneem Laher.

The sale was part of the fundraising initiatives they have been running during the week in order to raise funds for donations, food parcels, and mobile tent houses and for organisations that are on the ground and lending a helping hand.

“We believe that Islam is one body so when one of us is hurting, the rest feel the pain,” declared Tasneem.
The groups said they have no real target for the initiative but are grateful for any amount they make.
