The Ekurhuleni Municipality says work to restore strategic traffic lights will only be considered in the 2023/2024 financial year.
The Springs Advertiser has received many complaints from residents about traffic lights being out of order at two major intersections in town.
These are at the corner of Fourth Avenue and Paul Kruger Highway and Springs W Road and Tonk Meter Drive.
This has continued for a few months now and residents believe this hinders the traffic flow during peak hours.
“The city is aware of the situation. Vandals stole controllers and power supply cables at these two signalised intersections,” explained Zweli Dlamini, the metro’s spokesperson.
He said the city had no funds to restore it in the current financial year, as the maintenance budget was depleted.
“And therefore cannot embark on such a costly project,” he added.
The work can only be considered in the 2023/2024 financial year when funds become available.
“The estimated cost to repair both intersections is approximately R460 000,” concluded Dlamini.
