Four men jailed for life for terrorising Strubenvale and Springs taxi commuters in 2019

The arrests were led by Brigadier Thembeka Gwebushe, who tasked a detective team to trace and arrest the four suspects in 2019.

The Springs Regional Court sentenced four men charged with four crimes that had similar motives on April 26.

Brighton Shoveli (29), Samkelo Mdlalose (34), Mphumuzeni Nkosi (41) and Zoyisile Thuthuka (30) were sentenced to life imprisonment plus 19 years for their crimes.

According to Springs SAPS spokesperson Sergeant Themba Tshabalala, the men struck terror into taxi commuters between Strubenvale and Springs in 2019, committing crimes like rape, kidnapping, aggravated robbery and attempted extortion.

Station commander Brigadier Thembeka Gwembushe applauded Sergeant Lusapho Njwambe and his team for their commitment to bringing the perpetrators to book.

Despite the trial taking four years and having a positive outcome, Tshabalala urged the community to persevere with the justice system.
