KWF Springs Karatekas earn 45 medals at championships

KWF Springs Karate Club participated in a friendly competition against three dojos.

KWF Springs Karate Club claimed 45 medals at a friendly championship hosted by sensei Chris Anthony, on May 13.

The championship saw 25 club members compete against three dojos at the Brakpan Indoor Sports Centre.

Sensei Fanie du Plessis congratulated all the karatekas, saying he is proud of everyone bringing the medals back home.

“Thank you for all the work that you have put in. It paid off,” said Du Plessis.

Results
In kata, the bronze medal winners were Mauricette Schemper, Ronald Visagie, Bryan Kapp, Dewandre van Tonder, Duan Coetzee, Hope Reynolds, Matthew Barlow-Jones and Morne Minne.

Gold medal winners were Jazmin Conradie, Meetesh Kunver, Anushka Herbst, André Visagie, Francois van Eck and Johan Swanepoel.

Silver winners were Declan von Rauenstein, Divine Sithole, Leandra Kruger, Moranang Digomo, Zuhandre Prinsloo and Dries van Zyl.

Kihon ippon kumite bronze medals winners were Duane Retief, Mauricette Schemper, Brandon Mncube, Dante Koekemoer, Ronald Visagie, Dewandre van Tonder, Meetesh Kunver and Leandra Kruger.

Silver medal winners were Declan von Rauenstein, Divine Sithole, Hope Reynolds and Zuhandre Prinsloo.

Kumite (free fighting) bronze winners were Ronald Visagie, Duan Coetzee, Matthew Barlow-Jones and Francois van Eck.

The silver winner is Dries van Zyl.

Gold winners were Moranang Digomo, Morne Minne, André Visagie and Johan Swanepoel.

Karatekas participated in two divisions each, except for Ronald Visagie, who the organisers requested compete in kumite as well.

Du Plessis extended his gratitude to everyone who contributed to the championship’s success, as well as Anthony for hosting and inviting them to the occasion.
