52 medals for Scheepers karateka
Sensei Jannie Scheepers believes that karate is truly a lifestyle.
Students of Scheepers Karate recently participated in an inter-club championship alongside two other Brakpan dojos.
The club’s 30 karateka brought home 52 medals. Sensei Jannie Scheepers said he feels proud of his students winning medals.
“Competition is only 1% of what karate is about. The other 99% consists of a combination of physical as well as mental benefits,” said Scheepers.
“The discipline it implants in our children will not only improve them on an academic level but also throughout their lives when they are bombarded by everyday difficulties and tasks.”

Scheepers said the turnout was a success, which gave parents an opportunity to see what their children are learning.
“It also provides the sensei with a better perspective on where to improve the students at a technical level,” Scheepers said.
“There is a huge difference when it comes to how students perform in class and when under pressure, such as when competing in tournaments.”
He added that such a competition provides great exposure for new as well as more experienced karatekas, who usually use this tournament as preparation for the annual South African Karate Championship that was held on June 3.
