Veritas learners celebrate Mental Health Awareness Monday
Veritas College Senior School focuses on mental health to help learners focus on broader stressors.
On June 19, the Veritas College Senior School celebrated Mental Health Awareness Monday.
Mental Health Mondays aim to make the new week more attractive and allow for a break in routine by promoting an idea that reframes the week into something inspiring.
Principal Judy Achary explained that Bare Minimum Mondays (encouraging self-care), currently trending on social media, inspired the initiative.

“Although we cannot advocate for learners to complete the bare minimum amount of work required to be in line with the social media phenomenon, we did find the concept of a gentle start to the week inspiring,” said Achary.
The learners choose the ideas for Mental Health Mondays, and the Positivity Committee then decides on them and advocates for the concept.
The theme for the initiative was Disney-inspired, and learners had to dress up as their favourite Disney characters.

Achary added that although Winnie the Pooh offers good insight into a child’s perspective of mental health conditions and promotes food for thought with the character’s own musings, the inspiration of Disney extends to the characters.
“As Walt Disney so aptly stated, if you can dream it, you can do it, and we believe our learners can achieve great things in the July examination period.
“We openly advocate for learners to prioritise mental health while they revise their subject content and strive to achieve their dreams,” Achary affirmed.
