Manufacturing industries in Greater Springs face a planned power outage.
This outage will be from July 3 at 08:00 until July 9 at midnight.
Urgent maintenance work needed at the Springs JVA substation in Geduld will cause the outage.
The substation was damaged in a fire last November.
Some areas to be affected are the industrial areas, specifically those considered LPUs (large power users).
The Gauteng Chamber of Commerce and Industry confirmed the industries were aware of this planned outage since January.

In subsequent negotiations, a unanimous decision was taken on the agreed dates.
“The JVA substation is in a precarious state. We were advised that should these repairs not take place, the next incident could take much longer to restore, costing the industry more money and longer days to repair than what is on the table,” said the manager of the chamber, Barbara-Ann Day.
Clr Thulani Simelane spoke to those who were not members of the chamber.
“We ensured that everyone to be affected had a voice during the negotiations,” added Day.
The chamber commended the efforts of the stakeholders from the metro during the negotiations.
The metro urged residents to be cautious during the outage.

“As the project progresses, we will communicate the restoration time. Residents must always treat electrical networks as live,” said metro spokesperson Zweli Dlamini.

• Maksal Tubes
• Huhtamaki
• Kellogg’s
• Mpact
• Saint-Gobain Isover
• Fulcrum
• Gold Street
• Some companies on Vlakfontein Road
• Vereeniging Refractories and a few others
The Springs Advertiser asked the municipality if the residential areas should be concerned, but no answer was forthcoming.
Communication will be relayed once new information is to hand.
