Shelter for abused women needs your help

Call Her Blessed is an NPO and shelter for abused, destitute, and pregnant women and their children.

Call Her Blessed NPO is a one-stop shelter for pregnant and destitute women and their children who are survivors of abuse.

The NPO’s vision is the creation of a safe and secure society and a human rights culture where women and children are empowered to exercise their full rights.

“We aim to equip the women staying at the shelter with life skills that will allow them to become dependent on themselves through programmes that include work for a living, parenting skills, and garden for life,” said Lee-Ann Horton, member of Call Her Blessed.

The shelter also runs economic empowerment programmes that give the women skills and confidence to become financially more independent.

Like other NPOs, Call Her Blessed is reliant on business and community support to help keep its doors open and to render service to women and children.

One of their primary challenges is monthly expenses towards food, toiletries, estate levies, municipal accounts, electricity and gas, and petrol for the daily collection of donations and transportation for the women to clinics or hospitals when necessary.

Sarie de Jager, the founder of the shelter, also wants to raise awareness in the community about the NPO and encourages pregnant women who are abused and homeless to come forward and seek help.
