Budding cricket star qualifies for the Easterns
Karabo Ntsieng hopes to achieve his dreams of playing cricket professionally.
Karabo Ntsieng is Springs’ budding cricketer. The 16-year-old from Grootvlei, who attends Benoni High School, has been chosen to be part of the Eastern Gauteng Cricket team for the nationals in December.
Karabo’s father, Nyolo, talks about his son’s early love for cricket.
“Karabo was still in nappies when he fell in love in love with cricket. His love stems from his brothers as he would often watch them play. We bought him toys and inside the bucket were a plastic bat and a ball that he used to play them.”
Karabo played mini cricket from grades one to three and in Grade Five, he started with school and club cricket.
Nyolo proudly lists his son’s achievements during his growing sporting career.
“He was awarded cricketer and bowler of the year in his primary school years for grades five, six and seven consecutively. At Benoni Northerns Cricket Club, Karabo was the all-rounder of the year for 2018 to 2021.”
In 2022 he was awarded batsman of the year with the highest score of 100 not out. In 2022 Karabo was selected for the Eastern U15 team for the regional week, which took place in Gauteng.

A year later Karabo made the U16 Easterns team which will be travelling to Oudtshoorn for the school national cricket week between December 1o to 15.
A happy Karabo says he is excited for making the team and looking forward to the tournament. His parents including his mom, Magdalene, say they are proud of his achievements on and off the field.
“Karabo is very passionate about his sport and works very hard to improve his performance.”
The teen, who has gotten a full bursary to a school in KZN, says he would like to play cricket professionally and use it to travel the world and play in tournaments globally.
“One of his dreams is to see himself playing for the Proteas,” said the proud father.
Karabo says he also wants to study towards being a physiotherapist when he is done with school.
When he is not playing his favourite sport, one can find him watching TV, playing video games, studying or engaging in his much-loved pastime which is cooking.
