EMPD cautions road users about heavy rains in Ekurhuleni

The EMPD cautions road users to stay safe on wet roads because heavy rains are expected in parts of Ekurhuleni.

With heavy rains in some parts of Ekurhuleni, the EMPD has advised motorists to take it easy on the roads.

They urge motorists to reduce speed and maintain a safe following distance while driving.

The EMPD has issued these safety alerts to motorists:
• Avoid braking suddenly because it may cause the vehicle to skid.
• Switch on the headlights.
• Ensure the windscreen and wipers are in good condition.
• Slow down before entering any standing water, and avoid low-lying bridges.

Meanwhile, the EMPD urges pedestrians to navigate using sidewalks and parking lots.

Precaution for pedestrians:
• Keep your hands as free as possible to help you maintain balance.
• Be aware of vehicles and resist the urge to run across the road because drivers’ visibility during the rain could make them not see you.
• Pedestrians should be visible and avoid jaywalking.
• Pedestrians must cross at designated crossings and traffic lights.
• Look out for water puddles and manholes.

The EMPD urges its road users to constantly be cautious and comply with the rules of the road at all times, as per the National Road Traffic Act.
