HFG youth gain new skills

The youths from the Hope, Faith, and Grace (HFG) community project have achieved remarkable success selling pre-owned items at the centre’s thrift store.

Youths of the Hope, Faith and Grace (HFG) community project have been acquiring valuable skills since last July.

The skills, which include customer service, teamwork, financial management, target achievement and more, are developed through the experience of selling pre-owned items.

The leading team, the Golden Makers, achieved sales totalling R9 969.91 until last December. Carlisa Naude followed them, making R8 775 by selling pre-owned items.

Charles Makhetha from the Golden Makers said being at HFG taught him more than he knew previously.

“I remember when I had no place to stay, and Kerry-Leigh Wright, the founder of HFG, allowed me into her home,” said Charles.

“From then on, I propelled myself to grasp everything I was taught. I’m grateful for all they have done. It is through HFG that I am now an achiever, a hard worker, and a dreamer.”

Michael Khoza added, “HFG has made me grow and see my life from a different perspective, that I can be better than what I am.”

“I thank God for being here because I didn’t know that my life would take a turn into something that’s very immaculate. I appreciate Aunty Kerry so much for being our support structure.”

Naude said HFG has helped her heal and improve holistically.

“I am a lot better emotionally, mentally, and physically. I can honestly say I am work-ready,” she said.

“I have pushed, even though it wasn’t easy, but the perseverance, studies, education, and everything HFG has offered have made me a better person.”

Carlisa Naude exceeded her target and made R8 775 by selling pre-owned items.

Wright added that she looks forward to what this year will bring.

“These programmes will ensure the youth will start working, paying a small contribution towards rent and savings.

“In September, we will have their succession event. In October, some will move on, and a few will assist with the newcomers in January.

“This has been a long journey but so worth it,” said Wright.
