Bakery driver shot dead in Welgedacht

A bakery driver was shot dead while delivering bread at a supermarket in Welgedacht on January 15.

A driver of a bakery truck was shot dead at a supermarket in Welgedacht on January 15.

The deceased and his uncle, who is the truck assistant, were driving a white Kia delivery truck to deliver bread at the supermarket.

According to Springs SAPS spokesperson Sergeant Themba Tshabalala, it is alleged that the uncle heard two gunshots from inside while he was outside packing empty bread crates in the truck.

“He alleged that after hearing the gunshots, he ran and hid,” said Tshabalala.

Following that, two more gunshots were fired before he witnessed the shooter, dressed in a black jacket and cream-coloured pants, exit the shop.

“The uncle said that the shooter pocketed the gun and took off down the street,” said Tshabalala.

“He went into the shop and found his nephew motionless in a pool of blood with three gun wounds to his face.”

Police found four 9-mm cartridges at the scene.

Tshabalala added that nothing was taken from the deceased or from the shop. Police are investigating a murder case.
