Unrest delays motorists

The unrest started on Thursday night and ended on Friday morning after interventions.

Motorists experienced delays after unrest occurred on Thursday evening.

The incident happened on the N17 between Tonk Meter and Ergo roads.

Angry protesters blocked the road with rocks and burning tyres.

The protest happened after a man was killed helping residents remove shipping containers belonging to foreign nationals in Kwa-Thema.

The angry group disrupted traffic on the N17 soon after the incident. The road was closed off until Friday morning.

Brakpan SAPS Sector 1 manager and communications officer Constable Audrey Buthelezi confirmed that a man was shot and killed on the Ergo on-ramp, and the vehicle in which he was travelling torched.

The EMPD and SAPS intervened. The road was cleaned and is open to the public.
