SAPS swoop on motorists during roadblock

Police vetted over 120 commutters, two undocumented immigrants were arrested, and eight traffic fines were issued at the interprovincial roadblock on the N12 bordering Gauteng in the Springs area and Mpumalanga on Friday.

The SAPS conducted an interprovincial roadblock on the N12 in the Springs area bordering Gauteng and Mpumalanga on Friday.

The operation was held in collaboration with the EMPD and Gauteng Traffic Police to check for the roadworthiness of vehicles, dangerous weapons, stolen vehicles, stolen property, drugs and other illegal substances.

Springs SAPS spokesperson Sergeant Themba Tshabalala said the operation was to ensure that commuters entering the province are law-abiding citizens who have not committed any crimes outside of Gauteng.

“The operation is a multi-disciplinary, intelligence-driven crime combat operation that continues unabatedly to squeeze crime across our province,” said Tshabalala.
