Seven athletes represented the Far East Rand Hospital in the Two Oceans Ultra Marathon in Cape Town on April 13.

Seven Far East Rand Hospital (FERH) athletes participated in the Two Oceans Ultra Marathon in Cape Town on April 13.

The hospital welcomed the athletes on Monday as part of a culture of encouraging employee value propositions (EVP) during a welcoming ceremony.

“As expected, the team did not disappoint but made the department proud when they finished the race and came home with medals,” said FERH’s communications officer, Phumza Nthuthuka,

Nthuthuka said the EVP ensures their employees are better conditioned to serve patients with a smile. The team returned home with seven bronze medals and one silver, awarded to Unathi Madolo.

Madolo won a silver medal after he finished the race in less than five hours, reaching the finish line in 04:37.

Madolo excitedly said, “I am proud of myself after training hard to prepare for the race and being able to make my hospital and department proud.”

He further promised to do even better in the next Two Oceans Marathon.

The other athletes were Thulani Kubheka, Vusi Gamede, Ntomboxolo Madolo, Sandile Zondo, Tsholofelo Makgosana, and Sabelo Sibisi.

FERH CEO Sonwabo Lindani applauded the athletic team for their hard work, resilience, and dedication.

“You represented the Gauteng Department of Health well and fought a good fight,” said Lindani.
