Springs Rugby Club takes champ title

Springs went up a gear and started to dictate proceedings.

The Springs Rugby Club played against Boksburg in the final of the President Cup Bowl division on Saturday and took the title by winning 48-32. The teams played at Olympia Park in Springs.

Boksburg did most of the playing and quickly built up a 10-0 lead through a try and penalty conversion. Springs RC then got their feet firmly grounded and started to chip away at the score.

Ou Ryperd scored two tries that were converted. The halftime score was 14-10 to Springs. The second half was a seesaw affair as Springs scored four more tries, four conversions and two penalties.

Boksburg scored three tries (one penalty try), one conversion and one penalty. With 20 minutes left on the clock, it was hard to separate the teams. At that stage, the score was 23-21 to Boksburg.

Springs went up a gear and started to dictate proceedings. They played with more purpose, and their running game kicked into gear.

Boksburg was awarded a penalty try with 10 minutes left. Springs, however, scored two quick tries after that to secure the victory.

The Springs second team won 36-10. The Springs points came from six tries and two conversions, and Boksburg’s from a penalty and converted try.

The U21s lost 32-27 to Brakpan. Springs scored two tries, one conversion, and five penalties. Brakpan scored six tries and one conversion.
