Dersley Park triplets reflect on high school journey
The first triplets born at N17 Netcare Hospital are now completing matric and are eagerly anticipating their futures as they reflect on their unique journeys.
Eighteen years ago, Odelia, Theané, and Conrad Scholtz made the town’s history books as the first triplets to be born at the N17 Netcare Hospital.
Now, as they navigate their final year of high school at Hoërskool Die Anker in Brakpan, they reflect on their childhood and the bonds that have shaped their journey.
Conrad expressed the perks of being triplets, especially in school, as a fun experience when people don’t believe they are triplets.

“The first reaction we often get is, “Wow, are you serious?” said Conrad.
Apart from the fun experience, his sister Odelia said they would often face academic comparisons from teachers.
“They would sometimes question Conrad and I why we are not as focused as our sister, Theané,” said Odelia.
“Regardless of that, we still embrace our differences and individuality.”
Theané highlighted their interests and personalities are quite different, adding while they all enjoy going to the gym, Conrad talks about cars all day long.
“We never struggled to find our identities and our parents treat us as individuals,” Theané said.
Outside school, Conrad said he enjoys going to the gym and attending drag races at the Rock Raceway, often with his sisters by his side.

“They love experiencing the vibe with me,” he said.
Odelia added their highlight of doing things together is spending time on Fridays, which is their family time.
“Each of us gets to choose our favorite song, while my brother and dad handle the braai. We sing along to our songs and enjoy dancing together.”
Odelia said as they have grown older, their relationship has evolved.

“We share a very close bond and always stand up for one another. As we we’re in matric, I supported my sibling by sharing notes and offering guidance when needed. We keep each other motivated through laughter and encouraging pep talks,” Theané said.
With their matric year almost over, they plan to go in different directions. Odelia wants to study software engineering, while Theané is interested in human resource management.
Conrad plans to enter the workforce after completing an occupational health and safety course.
Before going on separate paths after school, they seem to have a last adventure they want to enjoy together – a road trip to the Western Cape to visit their grandfather.
