Dal Fouche patrol group to host fundraiser for crime-prevention LPR cameras
On Saturday, the fundraiser will take place along Olympia Road.
Controlling crime is not easy but Springs and Brakpan have the upper hand to make it possible. Six years ago, ProSafe joined hands with AfriForum to get their SNIPR project off the ground.
The SNIPR project consists of licence plate recognition (LPR) cameras that read passing number plates across Brakpan and Springs.
The cameras are linked to a national database that monitors vehicles linked to criminal activities and suspicious behaviour.
When vehicles are flagged, ProSafe’s control room receives an instant alert and they notify patrol groups.
LPR cameras can pick up crime offenders from card scammers and bank robbers to murderers.

Today, security companies such as ProSafe and Secure Tech are working with AfriForum and CPF groups to ensure that criminals in both Brakpan and Springs get caught.
Liaan Horton, general manager of ProSafe, said these cameras have a significant impact on crime.
“The last six years I have seen a massive difference in catching criminals and looking back to where it started I never thought it would have grown this much.”
Brakpan and Springs have 12 LPR cameras, which are costly to purchase, install and maintain. A resident and member of the Dal Fouche patrol group, Martin Montgomery intends to keep his neighbourhood safe by having an LPR camera installed.
“We need this camera to tame crime in our residential areas,” said Montgomery.

As a member of the Dal Fouche patrol group, Montgomery took the lead and this group will be hosting a fundraiser along Olympia Road on Saturday.
All proceedings from this fundraiser will go towards the LPR camera they intend to install on the border of Springs and Brakpan.
According to Montgomery, no vehicle driving between these two towns will pass this camera unseen.
Montgomery encourages both communities to support the fundraiser and thus contribute positively to stopping criminals.
