New organisation vows to clean up Springs
The group says everyone is welcome to join in making this dream a reality.
A new organisation, Springs Concerned Residents Restoration Association, has vowed to clean up Springs.
The association was established due to the rising problems with the cleanliness in the town. Spokesperson Fanie Phala says they are coming together to make Springs beautiful again.
“Springs has been overrun with grass and dirt. Businesses are leaving and it has become a haven for cockroaches, rats and snakes due to the long grass everywhere.”
He lamented the area has become unsafe in general due to it being so untidy.
“We are constantly afraid that our children will get mugged because it is easier for bad people to hide among the bushes. Springs used to be beautiful and clean, we need it to get back to its original beauty.”
Having started on January 18, the association and its supporters vow to meet up every Saturday and clean a part of Springs.
“Resources are a problem but we have been fortunate to get help from people and local businesses who share the vision with us.”
He says that having Springs clean again will do more than beautify it.
“It will bring investors and businesses back to Springs. The unemployment rate is high and seems to be increasing, with businesses returning, hopefully our children will find jobs.”
He says the issue of Springs getting back to its former glory should be a concern for every resident and not just a few.
“We need residents to come together and participate in making Springs a great place again. We must all put in the work and not just reap the benefits.
Phala has stated that they only need the bare minimum from the municipality.
“We don’t want much, we just request the metro dispatch a collection truck to go around the parts of Springs where we have cleaned and collect the refuse bags. We find they leave them out too long and the recycling collectors tear open the bags in search of cans and plastic bottles. They leave a mess there, making the area dirty again.”
He extends his gratitude to the following stakeholders:
• Antonio from Mini Fresh
• Springs Fashion
• Park Store
• Classique Paints
• Social Supermarket
• AV Cellphones
• Rite Price Wholesalers
• Lucky’s Hair Salon
• CBM Aluminum
• Half Price
• Matrink Fashion
• Sky Blue Hardware
• Lemon Twist Supermarket
• Wajid Khan
• Habebe Shkurala
“Thank you for your continued support and for providing cleaning materials and refreshments for the team.”
They were also assisted by the CPF and Springs EMPD.
“We will make Springs a town we can be proud of again.”
