Springs SAPS reels in car thieves, recovers vehicles

The SAPS recovered two vehicles and car parts.

The Springs SAPS recovered two stolen vehicles last week.

Vispol officers and Gauteng crime prevention wardens were patrolling the Far East Rand Hospital under instructions from the station commander.

“They were told to check the hospital for any suspicious-looking vehicles,” said Springs SAPS spokesperson Sergeant Themba Tshabalala.

The group then stopped a Toyota Etios.

“The officers found two men in possession of car break-in implements, including a jammer and car keys belonging to different car models.”

The Crime Prevention Unit was dispatched and investigated the suspects, leading to the apprehension of another two men.

“One was in possession of a firearm and ammunition, and the other of ammunition.”

Of the two vehicles recovered, the owner identified his car and was happy to have it found.

“It was an old man who had gone into the hospital to fetch his medication only to find his car stolen when he came out.”

Officers also found the parts of a blue Fiat.

“The only parts of the car we recovered were the doors, the boot, the bonnet and the engine. The shell was gone.”

Springs SAPS station commander Brigadier Raymond Buthelezi commended the efforts against crime in Springs.
