Geduld Cemetery clean-up completed, community support needed

The cemetery clean-up took months to complete.

Springsite Frans Roestoff has finally finished cutting the grass at the Geduld Cemetery.

The feat that took months to complete due to financial constraints and weather interruptions has now been achieved.

He remarks that it was not easy but it was worth it.

“Ever since the cemetery has been clean, I have been seeing more and more people come to visit their dearly departed. It makes me happy that their beloveds are no longer neglected.”

Roestoff says he did not have to clean the entire cemetery by himself.

“Someone, I don’t know who came with a team and they cleaned the area with the oldest tombstones and for that I am grateful.”

He remarks with a laugh how the rains are inconveniencing him.

“Every time it rains, I am forced to stop and by then the grass has grown again and I must start all over. The rain is beautiful but this makes my life a little more frustrating than interesting.”

His partner, Lisa Prinsloo, says she is happy that he is finally finished but there is still more that needs to be done.

“The tombstones need to be cleaned and Frans is willing to clean them if anyone is interested. We also need all the help we can get financially or with petrol for the lawnmowers and grass cutters.

“We also appeal to businesses to band together to get a gate to close the main entrance and to provide walling at the back.”

The couple extended their gratitude to everyone who helped Frans. For more information on the cause or to donate, contact Frans on 073 680 6732 or Lisa on 063 325 9219.
