Shield Yourself: Smart habits for flu season

Don't let influenza influence your plans this winter.

As the flu season approaches, taking preventative measures can help keep you and your loved ones healthy. Netcare Mulbarton Hospital advises regular handwashing with soap and water for at least 20 seconds.

This is crucial in preventing the spread of the flu virus. Dr Arnoldus Strydom, a general practitioner at Mulbarton Hospital, outlined prevention as the key to not getting the flu.

“The best way to stop the flu is through prevention. Practice good hygiene, wash your hands frequently with soap and water or use alcohol-based hand sanitizer. Use a tissue or your elbow to cover your mouth and nose when coughing or sneezing,” said Strydom.

Teach children good hygiene
Teaching children proper handwashing techniques can help them develop good hygiene habits that will last a lifetime. Make handwashing a fun and engaging experience for kids.
