Springs Ladies FC empowers young ladies through soccer
With limited resources, this talented soccer team is reaching for the stars.
Springs Ladies FC is a soccer team that hails from Slovo Park. This club, the home to talented young ladies, needs resources to continue being the club that hones the talent these ladies bring to the field.
The team’s coach, Thabang Mohlala, says he is proud of the girls in his team and seeing them succeed and reach new heights makes him emotional.
“We have been through so much, and yet I cannot believe that despite all, we have achieved even more.”
He says their lack of resources impacts the quality of training the soccer team has received, and he knows they are capable of more.
“If we can produce so much without the right equipment, how much will we do with sponsors on our side?”
They need:
• Soccer balls
• Cones
• Bibs
• Small goal posts
• Soccer boots
• Transportation for the children not from Slovo Park
• Training equipment
• First aid kit

Mohlala adds that on top of resources, they need players.
“We have so many talented children in Springs and surrounding areas, but they do not want to try out the game.”
He mentions the talent and the opportunities that came to them because they gave soccer a chance.
“Thando Mokgabudi’s talent as a goalkeeper took her to Zanzibar to represent South Africa. She is now on a full-time scholarship courtesy of the High Performance Centre and resides at SAFA’s Fan Valley. All this and she started in Slovo Park.”
Mohlala also spoke about their defender, who is also doing well in her own right.
“Puseletso ‘Tower’ Mohlala has gone from our soccer club to play for the Hollywood Bets team (First Touch FC). I am happy for the children more than anything else, and the dream lives on.”
He says most parents are not aware of the vast opportunities that await their children in soccer, like scholarships and travelling opportunities.
