WATCH: SPCA Springs robbed in early morning break-in

The two men reportedly stole the emergency gate motor and critical equipment including a welding machine, a large grinder, a wood saw and several other tools.

The Springs SPCA was robbed by two unidentified men in the early hours of May 27. The two men can be seen on CCTV footage trespassing onto the property at around 01:00.

They stole the emergency gate motor and critical equipment, including the welding machine, a large grinder, a wood saw, and several other tools. According to SPCA manager Annecia le Roux, this was a significant loss.

“This has been a devastating blow to our team. While we remain hopeful that insurance may cover some of the financial loss, the emotional toll and violation of our safe space cannot be measured.

“We are here to serve and protect the voiceless, to be a haven of safety and care for animals in need. Our resources are limited, and every piece of equipment has either been purchased with great effort or donated with immense kindness from our community,” she said.

The SPCA opened a case at the police station. Springs SAPS spokesperson Sergeant Themba Tshabalala said the police are awaiting the forensic report.

“The matter will be temporarily closed pending the forensic report,” he said.
