Robbers injure man, drag him to girlfriend’s house for cash
A 41-year-old man was assaulted and dragged to his girlfriend’s home by armed robbers, who forced her to send them money in a violent house robbery in Daggafontein.
A 41-year-old man was injured during a violent house robbery in Daggafontein on Wednesday when three armed suspects stormed his home at midnight.
According to Springs SAPS spokesperson Sergeant Themba Tshabalala, the robbers entered the victim’s house armed with two firearms and a crowbar. They demanded money. The man said he only had R200, which they took along with two cellphones.
Tshabalala said the suspects ransacked the house and struck the man on the head with a crowbar, causing a deep wound and heavy bleeding.
When they continued demanding more money, the victim told them he had transferred money to his 36-year-old girlfriend.
“They took him to her residence in D280, where they kicked down the door and forced their way in,” said Tshabalala.
Upon seeing them dragging in her injured partner, the robbers ordered the girlfriend to hand over the money he had sent her.
“She was forced to send R3 000 via cash send. The suspects also took both of her cellphones, valued at approximately R5 000,” Tshabalala added.
The robbers did not assault the woman or her children. After the robbery, the suspects locked the victims inside the house.
The woman managed to break open a galvanised sheet in her bedroom and sought help from a neighbour to call the police and an ambulance. The man was taken to the hospital for treatment. Police are investigating.
