Ekurhuleni aware of exposed cables in Casseldale, repairs planned
After weeks of concern over exposed streetlight cables in Casseldale, the metro has confirmed that the issue will be addressed as part of the next financial year’s maintenance plan, with repairs expected by the end of August.
Following an article published by the Springs Advertiser, ‘Casseldale streetlight cables exposed for weeks, residents fear electrocution’, the metro’s spokesperson, Zweli Dlamini, said the municipality is aware of the issue.
He said it was identified during a routine inspection and has been added to the maintenance plan for the 2025/26 financial year.
“The department is sourcing material to replace the pole. The expected delivery of the pole is by the end of August,” said Dlamini.
He also urged road users to treat all electrical equipment as live and not to interfere with it under any circumstances.
Rina Daniel, the residen who initially told the publication about the streetlight, said the municipality is currently fixing it.
