Casseldale streetlight cables exposed for weeks, residents fear electrocution
A damaged streetlight at the corner of Colliery and Clydesdale roads in Casseldale has left exposed cables and unlit streets, raising safety concerns for schoolchildren and workers using the busy route daily.
A streetlight at the corner of Colliery and Clydesdale roads in Casseldale was damaged in an accident about a month ago, leaving its cables exposed and the road in darkness.
Rina Daniel, a local resident, told the publication the exposed cables pose a serious risk to road users. She explained that the damaged light has affected others along the road, leading to increased darkness and contributing to more accidents.
“My biggest fear is that someone, especially a child or a worker from the nearby Rainbow Education Centre, could be electrocuted,” said Daniel.
“The cables were tied back after the accident, but now they’re loose again.”
Daniel said she reported the matter to the metro call centre by phone but was referred to the EMPD.
The EMPD then redirected her back to the call centre, which finally gave her reference number 202507091214. Comment is awaited from the City of Ekurhuleni.
