Preschools celebrate Grandparents Day with heartwarming visits to Springs old-age homes

Preschoolers visited local old age homes for Grandparents Day, delivering books, hand-coloured pictures, and thoughtful gifts to nearly 500 elderly residents.

Various preschools in the area visited old-age homes on July 27 to mark Grandparents Day. The children from The Little Achievers, Vinnige Voetjies, Dawie Kabouter, Smiley Kids Petersfield, and Lag en Leer Naskool Sentrum gifted the grandparents with books for their libraries and a small present for each resident, along with a coloured-in picture.

They visited Awendgloed, Markville, Molendam and Presidentia. Ward councillor Charmaine Kock told Springs Advertiser that elderly people are often placed in these homes and forgotten.

She said the purpose of the visits was to remind them that many grandparents have left footprints in people’s hearts and that they are truly not forgotten. A total of 487 elderly residents received surprise visits from the team, and 1 680 books were distributed.

She said the residents of Presidentia were especially glad to see them and, like the other old people, were grateful for even the smallest gesture.
