Springs Premier U17 edged out 5-4 by Castleview in cup thriller
Springs Premier’s U17 first team fell just short in a gripping Round 2 cup match against Castleview FC, losing 5-4 at home despite a strong performance.
Spring Premier’s U17 first team put up a strong fight in their latest cup clash but narrowly lost 5-4 to Castleview FC in a high-scoring encounter on home turf, Veritas College.
The game was a Round 2 cup fixture in which the local team fell short of securing a win. The tightly contested match kept spectators on edge, with both sides pushing hard from start to finish.
Ntokozo Mazibuko, Springs Premier coach, told Springs Advertiser that he was proud of his team, despite the loss.
He said that they created many chances and that they had been on top for most of the game. He also said the players got too relaxed after scoring the first goal, and they had to fight back. He added that the players tried their best to come back into the game; however, it was too late.
“We had a good game and a good fight from the boys. I am proud of them, and we keep on fighting,” said Mazibuko.
Sizwe Ngcobo, the team’s captain, said that though it was tough, he was proud of the team’s effort. Ngcobo, who scored during the game, said he dedicated the goal to his coach.
“We gave it our all, and sometimes it’s just not enough. We will learn from our mistakes, regroup, and come back stronger.
“I congratulate the opposition; they are a good team, and I wish them luck in the cup tournament,” said Ngcobo.
He also said their team had to fix their mistakes, especially in the air, as it was exposed during the game. Ngcobo concluded that it was a lesson for the team, and they would bounce back ten times stronger.
The team will face Kempton Park in the Plate Round 2 this Saturday at 13:00 on their home ground.
