Soup kitchen to hand out chocolates to celebrate Women’s Day

The Greater Springs Soup Kitchen will mark Women’s Day by handing out chocolate to women collecting food.

To celebrate Women’s Day tomorrow (Saturday), the Greater Springs Soup Kitchen will be handing out a little treat, chocolate, to the ladies who will be receiving soup.

The kitchen will be open from 15:00to 17:00 at its usual spot in the Meat Mecca parking lot in Geduld.

Franci Swanepoel, the kitchen’s founder, told Springs Advertiser that since the women in the country will be celebrated, they decided to also make it special for all the ladies who come and get food from them.

She said they are underprivileged and destitute, and they thought the gesture would make their day a little more special, even if it is just for one day.

“Some of them don’t have family or the means to make it a special day. That’s why we want to do something special for them as well,” said Swanepoel.

She also said women are the mothers of our nation, and they deserve to feel special. Swanepoel added that the day is about saying thank you to them, too, for being reminded they are seen and acknowledged.

Swanepoel said that if anyone would like to contribute or donate, they can call her on 064 580 4852.
