Springs Premier crush Kempton Park

After a shaky start, Springs Premier U17 L1 turned up the heat to secure a 7-1 win in Sunday’s Plate 2 match at Veritas.

The Springs Premier U17 L1 handed the Kempton Park Football Club a crushing defeat on Sunday afternoon, winning by a 7-1 margin at their home ground, Veritas College. The game was part of the Plate Round 2, and Springs Premier was aiming for a win to advance to the next stage.

The first-half opening goal came from the away team’s Braedon Muzimba. Springs Premier made a great return when Atlehile Marumo equalised. Springs Premier’s Tshepiso Sibanyoni ended the first half with the team’s second goal.

The Kempton Park FC tried to make a comeback in the second half, but the defence of Springs Premier was solid, which allowed Lesedi Monanthane to add his name to the scoresheet and score for Springs Premier.

Like his teammates, Prince Phiri saw an opening and scored the team’s fourth goal. Ntokozo Ngema, Springs Premier’s captain, scored the fifth goal, making it hard for the visitors to make a return in the game.

In the remaining minutes, Marumo scored his second goal of the day, and Ofentse Matlala wrapped up the game and scored the seventh goal for the home team.

After the game, Springs Premier’s coach MJ Phofele told the Springs Advertiser that the game started at a frantic pace for both teams.

He said that once the visitors scored first, they calmed down a bit and started controlling the pace of the game, and his team was able to score two goals in the first half.

“In the second half, we had total control of the game. Kudos to Kempton Park FC’s goalkeeper; otherwise, it was going to be worse for them. Luckily, we scored five more goals to make it 7-1. Their overall behaviour, including that of their technical staff, was great,” said Phofele.

Speaking on behalf of the team, Ngema said that despite the win, he was disappointed in how his teammates played. He said in the second half of the game, his teammates started undermining their opponents. Ngema added that in the first half, his team rotated the ball and played properly, which was different to the second half.

“Going to the next round, the mindset will have to change, and they have to learn not to undermine the opponents, no matter what the score is,” he said.

Kempton Park’s coach, Solomzi Mabuza, said he was happy with his players, saying the loss for his team was a lesson to grow and learn from their mistakes.

“We take the loss as men, go back to review and come back better next time,” said Mabuza.

Refiloe Mofokeng, the team captain, said that it was not the team’s best game and that his teammates did not play at their best, saying that in their next match, they would work on their defence, communication and attacks.

“I will try asking them to show up for practice every Tuesday and Thursday so we can fix our mistakes,” said Mofokeng.
