Two masked men hijack car in Springs, victims escape
Hijackers targeted two women sitting in a vehicle outside a home.
On August 17, a white Hyundai Atos was stolen during a hijacking in Springs after two masked men threatened the driver and her friend, who escaped without injury.
Springs SAPS spokesperson Sergeant Themba Tshabalala confirmed that a case of car hijacking was opened, and no suspects have been arrested.
According to Tshabalala, the car owner and her friend were seated in the car outside the friend’s home when the two masked assailants with guns went to the driver’s and passenger’s doors.
He added that one man told the women to exit the car.

He pulled one of the women by the hair and tried to put her in the back of the car. He added that the second man fired a shot next to the friend, and she fell.
“The car owner then ran away towards a church where there were people. One person gave her a cellphone and she phoned her aunt in Pretoria,” he said.
The car owner returned to her friend, who was unharmed, and then called the police. The men took the white Hyundai Atos and other valuable items.
“She would not be able to identify the suspects because it was dark and because of their face masks,” concluded Tshabalala.
