Bhairavi Sungum’s Springs fundraiser event blends elegance with empowerment

Springs women gathered at the Bhaivari Sungum High Tea where laughter and upliftment came together to support the dream of a new cultural welfare centre.

The Bhairavi Sungum High Tea Fundraiser, held on Saturday at the Bakerton Community Centre, was a celebration of elegance, unity and purpose.

Ladies in attendance were dressed to the nines, enjoying beautiful performances while being reminded of the power of women uniting for a great cause.

The event was hosted to support the development of a cultural welfare centre for the Springs community. The programme director was actress and comedian Maeshni Naiker, who shared a quote that captured the essence of the gathering.

“Empowered women empower women,” she said.

Naiker encouraged the ladies to do what makes them happy.

“Life is short, so do what you have to do now. Take those photos with your loved ones, go on that trip, buy those shoes.”

Chairperson Pooveshree Pillay shared her vision for the initiative.

“This centre is more than just bricks and mortar. It is about building a future where our community thrives. Empowered women empower women, and through this event, we hope to inspire, uplift and unite.”

She added: “Such centres are proven to be invaluable. They serve as engines of learning and create bonds that transcend age, reminding us of the threads of our diverse cultures.

“Our vision extends beyond promoting culture alone. We aim to create a safe and supportive space for our youth, adults and senior citizens.”

Pillay highlighted how the centre will be a source of empowerment for young people.

“By investing in our centre, we invest in the empowerment of our leaders of tomorrow. This event is not just a fundraiser, it is a movement towards empowerment and education.”

The high tea featured musical performances and fun activities where participants won prizes.
