Springs SAPS warns against fake social media posts about police vehicles
Springs police say a social media post warning of cloned police vehicles in the East Rand is false.
Springs police are warning residents to be cautious about false information circulating on social media, following a post claiming that cloned police vehicles are operating in the East Rand area.
The post reads, “Please be alert and on the lookout. There is a report of a cloned police bakkie (Ford Ranger) with registration, BTB 076 B. It is working along with a silver Mazda 3 (HJC 800 MP), a registration which doesn’t exist and a blue Polo with registration JRP 203 MP. These three cars are working together to commit crimes, so be vigilant. If stopped, drive to your closest SAPS.”
The station commander, Brigadier Raymond Buthelezi, said this post is fake.
“The community members are informed that unconfirmed information can lead to prosecution. The original author of the post in circulation is referred for further investigation so they must refrain from doing so,” he urged.
