City clarifies fixed electricity fee applies only to certain tariffs

The CoE says only some Springs customers qualify for the suspended R126 fixed fee.

Springs residents are still voicing frustration over the R126 fixed electricity charge, despite announcements that it had been suspended.

As previously reported in the Springs Advertiser, residents said the fee continues to appear on their bills, adding financial strain.

“It’s not suspended, I paid the fixed tariff yesterday at Selcourt SPAR,” said Louise Wolhunter. Another resident, Rina Erasmus, commented, “They are still charging R126- it’s not suspended at all.”

In response to enquiries, the City of Ekurhuleni (CoE) explained that the suspension applies only to customers on Tariff A2.

“The fixed charge is still applicable to other tariffs, as outlined in the CoE tariff schedule,” said spokesperson Zweli Dlamini.

Customers uncertain about their tariff can confirm their status by visiting their nearest energy office or emailing their meter number to the CoE.
