16 drug peddlers, including 4 illegal immigrants, taken off Ekurhuleni streets

The EMPD Drug Enforcement and K9 Units swooped on suspects in a two-day operation.

The EMPD unleashed its Drug Enforcement Unit (DEU) and K9 Unit officers on alleged drug peddlers across the City of Ekurhuleni, resulting in 16 arrests between August 19 and 20.

Acting on information about individuals suspected of peddling illicit substances in their communities, officers arrested one female and 11 males between the ages of 20 and 46. They were found in possession of cat, crystal meth, Mandrax, cannabis, and a black plastic bag filled with cannabis.

The confiscated substances are estimated to be worth R10 000. In addition, four of the 16 suspects were arrested for being in the country illegally.

All 16 suspects were taken to their respective police stations and are facing charges of possession and dealing in illegal substances, as well as charges of illegal immigration. They are expected to appear in their respective magistrate’s courts soon.
