Cable theft strikes Nuffield substation

Suspects broke into the Nuffield substation to steal electrical cable, highlighting ongoing challenges with local power theft.

The Nuffield substation on Milner Road was broken into on September 17.

According to ProSafe’s Dorette van Zyl, the suspects gained entry by breaking through a concrete slab and breaching the electric fence of the premises adjoining the substation.

“They then forced open the lock of the substation and stole electrical cable from within.”

This robbery follows a meeting held at the Springs SAPS on September 4, regarding the electricity issues the community faces due to cable theft.
