New courts, new sport: Pickleball comes to Springs

Selection Park Racquet Club to launch new pickleball courts on October 18 at 14:00.

Selection Park Racquet Club will introduce pickleball to Springs when it open the pickleball courts on October 18 at 14:00.

The courts are located at 1513 Oppenheimer Circle in Selection Park. Pickleball is a fun fusion of tennis, table tennis, and badminton.

It is played on a badminton-sized court with a net slightly lower than in tennis. It uses a paddle larger than the one used in table tennis and can be played in singles or doubles format.

“It is perfect for all ages and skill levels. Participants need no prior racquet experience, and most people can learn the basics in five minutes. It is the fastest-growing sport in the world and is now in Springs,” club member Sanet Burger said.

She added that attendees of the opening can expect free pickleball demos, friendly matches, beginner lessons, and delicious refreshments. She urged visitors to wear tennis shoes, as they don’t allow other shoes on the courts.

“Whether you are a seasoned player or just curious, visit us to see what the buzz is all about. Let’s build a vibrant pickleball community,” Burger said.
